A thousand nights have come and gone,
And yet the wars rage on and on.
A thousand knights have drawn their swords,
Letting blades replace their words.
The king, he rests upon his throne,
Grief sunk deep into his bones,
As his finest ride to die
Under God’s most watchful eye.
With honor they defend their lands,
The blood of many stains their hands.
They hope that after death comes Heaven
For all of their most valiant brethren.
But how can they find salvation
When they cause such desolation?
In the name of God they break His laws,
Fighting for their holy cause.
But they think not of lives rejected,
Only of those lives protected.
The king uplifts his weary eyes
And pleads to God that when he dies
His sins and wrongs may be forgot
And that the death his knights have wrought
Be overlooked in light of valor
In his homeland’s darkest hour.
But death is death and sin is sin,
Satan cracks a wicked grin
And opens wide the gates of Hell.
Endless torment had befell
All of those courageous knights
Who fought so hard to end their plight.
The king, he weeps for tortured souls
And much regrets his foolish goals.
He thought that glory could be found
In blood spilled upon the ground.
