hey i had a crazy idea....CHESS.
but not just regular chess, battle chess!
so we divide up the sides to two teams of evenly matched (equipment wise) and line up in two lines. the object is still to kill the king, but the twist is that the king calls all the shots, he is like the commander for his side. he tells who to move where. now as far as movements, nobody has to walk in "L's" or anything. just special pieces have certain equipment/movement:
btw this is played on a big area. half the puck area or so (not as long tho)
pawns
can take two normal steps in any directions (except back)
-no shields (and maybe no reds) idk about that one
Rooks
can take 5 steps in the same direction. (can pick any one, but can't change course)
-sword n board
knights
4 steps in any direction (able to change directions mid way) AND able to move other pawns (pick them up and take with them) once he has moved the pawn goes to either side or behind him
-any set
bisops
5 steps any direction (like rooks, no change course)
-reds
queen
7 steps any where, can change course AND 1 extra life (explained later)
-any weapon set
King
1 step anywhere
-!!!only has a tower shield!!! (no weapon, except maybe a dagger...or a spear)

the king tells who to move where, each side gets to move one person at a time.
step= one normal sized walking step, thus will varry person to person. NO obnoxiously big steps, just like ur walking normaly
once two pieces (players) are ordered close to each other (so as to attack), they first do a range test. if both fighters can tough each other with their weapons then they duel. and the winner stays and the loser is out. (so even if a rook "takes" a pawn's spot, if in the duel the pawn wins then he stays there and the rook is dead) if they can't touch then they are out of range and don't fight.
if a pawn get to the back of the enemy line, another player who has died can come back in, to be selected by the king... if nobody has died then the pawn has wasted its time, no multiple pieces either
Queen has one res. at her starting spot (since she is the most powerful piece). so after the queen is killed in the first duel she returns to her starting spot, if it is occupied then she stands nearby
obviously the king is not armed, or not well armed at least, to make it easy to attack him. otherwise it would just be like a long drawn out knight battle. The game is over when the king is dead.
I am considering giving mulitble moves per turn. like one side moves 3 ppl then the other moves three.
whats everyone thikng?
