I have a friend who was wondering if possible to make a bo staff to use to fight?
Which is something I've wondered myself for a while.
If so...how do you go about making one that would pass but not be ridiculously huge to handle (Like the number of layers of foam)?

you could make a 6' one with two 1' blades, one on each end (barrel-style), each with a pokey tip, and then incidentally pad the other 4'. you'd be able to strike and poke, but not grip anywhere but the middle. a big problem is, that you aren't really supposed to be able to grab any part of the weapon designated as a striking edge, so a true bo staff is pretty much impossible.

well...we really don't grab any part but the middle that much anyways. I think four feet of grabbing space might work....

Good thing I have a whole roll of foam I never used. XDXD

4.1.9. No swung weapon may have more than 1/3 of its overall length unpadded, nor have more than 30 unpadded.

4.1.11.8. Double-ended weapons such as quarter staves are always considered to
be blue weapons.

4.2.5.1. Double-ended weapons must not be more than 7 feet long.
4.2.5.2. Double-ended weapons must have a minimum of 18 inches of
cylindrically padded striking surface on each end.
4.2.5.3 Both ends must pass as green or neither end will pass as green stabbing
points.

i know some reitteration but thats about all the rules that you need to know for bo staff

I'd recommend making a staff, not a double-ended sword. If you make the weapons bladed, you'll end up hitting with the flat way more than anything else.

It won't be effective, no matter what- but it will be fun! And if you can't work out the rules- then at least you can play at home, right? Smile Best of luck with it.

uh, yeah you can't dag-legally make a double-bladed weapon. MOA says it has to be cylindrically padded

Does it really? Hmmm... silly me. I've never made any double ended weapon, nor passed any double ended weapon. But there was a double ended sword as a toy a long time ago. Like 2-3 years back- definitely before we were official. However, it did not work. Smile It wasn't padded enough either.

I really simply don't understand why they even made rules for double ended weapons, I have never seen one on the field before.

I guess I fail.

I've seen two people use bo staffs now. One was Kira back in Blue Springs, who had some degree of success. The other was Doom, here in Rolla, who wields it ridiculously effectively.
I think being effective with it is rare, which is probably why it never makes many appearances on the field.

That's probably it.

And the rules about them are very ... weird.
