| Most of you have either been reading about the garb threads on the national boards, or are at least aware of Stellaria's letter to enforce existing garb rules at events.
This is not meant to stifle the fun for those people who would rather not wear garb, nor is it a crusade against those who have less interest in attaining good garb, rather it is meant to improve Dagorhir as a whole by simply enforcing our rules consistently.
Haven will be actively supporting this initiative with the following goals in mind for our own realm (Rolla).
1. Garb will not be required to attend regular fighter practices, except for occasional garbed-practices which will be announced ahead of time.
2. Any Havenite who attends an event will be required to have minimum passing garb before the event. This means a sleeved tunic (not tabard) of proper length, earth-tone pants not obviously modern, and earth tone shoes. These requirements may be waived ONLY if the rest of the ensemble is of superior quality.
3. Open workshops will be available to anyone wanting to work on garb. These will be held after regular practices at The Forge, or unless otherwise noted.

| As much as I, an admitted stick jock, don't really care about garb it should be noted that when everyone has it one it makes us look that much better. We look more like an organization when we match. GO GET GARB! | |

| Garb is as easy as 3-4 yards of fabric. I'll help anyone with the pattern and sew it for 'em. | |

| How come sleeved tunics are required instead of tabards? I thought tabards were passing garb? | |

| First of all, a "tabard" is a typically sleeveless tunic sometimes left open at the sides or even split up the front. This garment would have been emblazoned with some heraldic design and worn over clothing and armor. In no way were tabards ever worn as an item of clothing. Think of them as jerseys that go on over a sports uniform.
If that's the only "garb" that you're wearing, it would clearly show all the mundane clothing underneath it, as a tabard is sewn open. This would fail a garb check from 10 ft. away.
A sleeved tunic is the bread-n-butter of almost every medieval culture's wardrobe. The length of the tunic would have differed between centuries, and some far eastern cultures would have cut it differently. Even most "fantasy" cultures utilize the tunic in some shape or form.

| But, technically speaking, a tabard alone will pass, assuming whatever is underneath would also pass. (Bare-chests do not violate garb rules) | |

| IF you're wearing a tunic-like garment and THEN a tabard over that, yes that passes. But keep in mind the legwear and footwear.
So saying "a tabard alone will pass" is incorrect. A better way to word that statement would be, " a tabard is a passing item IF it is worn with passing garb." The tabard =/= garb.

| Okay, I looked it up and it seems I am wrong after all.
Still, I would not kick someone off the field for that, since the accepted standard in Dag is to allow tabards as passing garb. If we are doing Garb check, (And I hope that one of you has confirmed with Fafnir that we are) then we would need to discuss some standards like this ahead of time.

| Actually, let me make that last part more clear.
If you haven't already, can you or Kairi or Odin Please confirm with Fafnir that Haven will be doing garb check at Gates? It is important that we do this, and it is important that we don't half-a** it.
AND It is important that everyone knows ahead of time that we are doing this.

| Fafnir never got back to me. I can try him again...
Also, for the sake of argument, the point of the universal garb initiative is to keep people wearing only a tabard off the field. As per the MOA rules on garb, a lonely tabard is failing garb. Right now the "accepted standard" does not meet the expectation of the rules. We hope to change that by enforcing the rules.
