| While heading here I found a book detailing some of the recent histories of this land. I came upon an interesting passage detailing the ambush of Lord Iohn and his guard in Blueford valley. The book described how Lord Iohn was hunting with his guard and was waylaid by bandits. They were outnumbered 2-1 and completely separated. Lord Iohn called his guard to him and though they suffered great casualties they manage to form up and thusly routed the bandits. I believe this battle would make an excellent skirmish scenario. A captain is chosen and they pick one third of the peoples present. Everyone else present is a bandit. The captain stands in the center of the field and his guards are spread across the field. Bandits form up 2 to each guard and 2 to the captain. All extra bandits are on the captain. The captain and his guard win by killing all the bandits. The bandits win by killing the captain and half of those numbering in his guard. Each time the captain loses he may pick one bandit to join him. Each time the bandits lose they get a guard. Anyone else have any battle scenario ideas? | |

| I wouldn't have a problem with perhaps trying to reenact such a battle at, say... perhaps our next practice? It'd be a good exercise, and a fun one I'm willing to bet. | |

| This is indeed one of the skirmishes chronicled by the scribes who traveled with the founders of Haven. Although one of the more obscure accounts of the travels of Sir Iohn, it has nonetheless been recorded and kept by the scribes of our fair city. Because the scouting force of bandits was destroyed, the greater force in the forests west of the city was defeated the following day at the walls of Haven, having their numbers cut by the hunting party.
Perhaps we may make a festival of this event, to remember the bravery of the men who defended their city from invasion.

| I've looked around Haven for the book detailing the battle but so far the search has borne no fruit for I fear the book might have burnt away in a fire some years ago. I do believe I could reconstruct the battle if some one were to enlighten me as to what the fortifications of Haven were at the time.
I did happen to stumble upon a curious item during my search though. An eloquently written diary belonging to the bandit leader. The man seemed to have a fair sense of war and its intricacies. The dialect is a bit odd but so far I have discerned a favored method of his for training his men. Each unit captain would pick men to be in the other captains unit. This would ensure each squad would have the worst possible combination to fight with. This prepared the captains to fight during a rout when their individual units were crushed and they had to fight with whatever is left. I believe there might be merit to this scenario.

Fine with me, if it is your diary that is. Why would Sir Iohn associate with someone that attacked and murdered Haven citizens afterall?

| Besides... The rest of the Fallen Caln would rip him to shreds and feed him bits of himself, if he betrayed Haven. | |

If you were not responsible for the attack why would you apologize for the action? Unless of course you /did/ have something to do with the raid in which case the evidence would needs be reviewed. But really, this is ancient history is it not, Tyr?

| I'd have a go at seizing a ship. Sinking it seems more expeditious, but if it has better sails or more cannon, or food we need, or money, or shiny things, or livestock... | |

| The glory of Haven is that we are accepting of any and all, including those with pasts that are rather shadowed. Whats done is done, and what's grown since then is far more important here. Let's argue more for the furthering of our great realm rather than bickering over it's past, shall we? | |

| It is more advantageous to a pirate to capture a ship than to sink it. When captured, the victor may pillage any supplies the ship may have, imprison the crew, hold hostage its officers, or sell the ship itself at a nearby port. Correct me Jagun if I'm wrong, but have you not captured nearly half a dozen ships since I have known you?
Haven's own blackmarket indeed! I must say, however, that I'm rather fond of that tasty wine you always manage to turn up! Where does it come from?

| Lady Kairi is right. Let us forget these past rivalries and learn from our wrongs to build this city-state into a powerful nation. | |
